Low-voltage Halogens could be banned as early as next year.

Draft legislation drawn up by the European Commission has planned to ban low-voltage under performing Halogens by 2013.
Millions of MR16 12V Halogens are sold annually within the EU and new better-performing versions are due to be available by 2016. The better performing versions include infra-red coatings and longer lifetimes. This is all part of the Ecodesign legislation that has already begun phasing out under performing incandescent lamps.
Why not switch to LED alternatives.
MR16’s are the workhorses of commercial, retail and household lighting and without a strong supply chain for traditional lamps, Exled have increased stock levels of their LED MR16 alternatives.
We have also for a limited time reduced the cost of all of our GU10 and MR16 LED lamps! What better time to trail LED lighting for your business or home with prices reduced to just £8 per lamp. 2012 could be the best time to make the switch - with life spans of 30,000 hours, high lumen outputs and using only a fraction of the power halogens consume they will even cut your electricity bill! Visit http://www.led-lightbulbs.co.uk/scp/LED_Lamps/MR16.html to see our full range of MR16s and GU10s http://www.led-lightbulbs.co.uk/scp/LED_Lamps/GU10.html.
For large projects give our technical sales team a call on 01453 756361 and they can help you work out the savings of switching to LED.

Big shifts in the LED industry should lead to much lower prices for LED lighting in 2012
What does the television and cell phone industry have to do with the cost of LED Lighting? The answer is that the industries are now responsible for rapidly driving down the cost of LED lighting. This is fantastic news for consumers and will result in a quicker adoption of the technology than was previously forecast, despite the general global economic slowdown.
Over the last few years major producers of television and mobile devices have invested heavily in the MOCVD equipment required to produce the chips that are used in LEDs. This is because significant numbers of LEDs are used in new generation LED TVs and most mobile devices and these manufacturers (like Samsung and LG) have seen the economic advantage of making their own LEDs.
These companies now have surplus production capability and have realised that there is a huge demand for high quality LEDs from the light industry. These backlighting SMD LED devices are efficient, reliable, easy to incorporate into lighting fixtures and most importantly for the lighting manufacturers, they are cheap.
By the middle of this year we can expect to see LED down light fixtures producing 1500 lumens of light in warm white for around £50 to the end user. This is less than half of what we would have expected to pay in mid 2011, and most significantly, not much more than the equivalent twin CFL type fitting traditionally used in commercial offices and retail outlets.

Setting your business new year resolutions?
Like most businesses, making effective cost savings are high on the agenda for 2012, with budgets being adjusted, decisions being made to fast track efficiency and with the corporate mission of being environmentally aware to add into the mix.
Where to start can seem daunting... especially as the lists seem endless!
Switching to LED lighting can create a quick win solution, combating both cost-cutting exercises, for maintenance and energy usage, and environmental policies like lowering the carbon dioxide emissions and reducing waste for the organisation. The features for LED make great business sense; anyway you look at it and even throw in a few extra features along the way including creating better working environments! The wellbeing for staff is a much discussed topic and questions are often raised about increasing output levels, by increasing your lighting lux levels with quality lighting and introducing uniformed flicker-free illumination has been proven to help increase productivity* making the office space work as hard as you do.
Cutting costs not quality with LED lighting from Exled, if you have a project or an area you would like to use or test commercial LED lighting to see the benefits for yourself then give one of our account managers a call on 01453 756361 to discuss your lighting environment needs.

NHS Supply Chain has published its annual sustainability report with a 14% carbon reduction in 2 years.
The NHS Supply Chain (NHS SC) has been in action since 2006 with the aim to deliver £1billion in savings for the NHS. With approximately 60% of carbon emissions across the NHS being attributed to the procurement sector the NHS SC has seen the opportunity to help with key target areas including; Energy, Waste, Water, Transport, Staff travel, Internal procurement and Training and awareness. They are committed to putting the principles of sustainability into practice and with ISO 14001 certification the key objectives include:
- Improving water, energy and fuel efficiency
- Reducing emissions, waste and pollution from distribution centres and our fleet vehicles
- Increasing recycling
- Improving vehicle fleet utilisation
- Reducing packaging
- Making more efficient use of natural resources across our business activities.
The report, which can be found at http://www.supplychain.nhs.uk/~/media/Files/Misc/Sustainability_report2010.ashx has measured a 14% reduction in carbon emissions between 2008 and 2010. The supply chain has gained these savings via a few main components including; packaging, introduction of greener vehicles; improvements to lighting and heating systems in warehouses and distribution centres across the UK.
LED lighting has played a part for sustainable operations noted here as a case study for Normanton Distribution Centre:
“Achievements for 2010: Undertook a trial of LED lighting on the loading bay at Normanton, reducing electricity consumption per hour from 500W to 6W.”
In the reports plans for 2011 – “Roll out LED lighting where appropriate across the network.” This is where Exled can help with energy saving and carbon emission cutting we are ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 accredited and passionate about helping all areas of commercial and industrial organisations to help with their carbon cutting targets. We supply a wide range of LED solutions to help every area of a building, warehouse or estate save energy and carbon.
Give us a call for more information or arrange a site visit where we can help assess where LED lighting could benefit you as we all head towards the 2050 goal of an 80% reduction in carbon emissions.

Our top 10 energy saving tips
As it is #EnergySavingWeek and energy prices have all seemed to have jumped up, we thought we would pull together our top ten ways of reducing your energy bills and energy consumption at home.
1. Fix your dripping taps, did you now that you are wasting half a bath full of hot water a week.
2. Close your curtains at dusk to stop heat escaping through your windows. Check all your doors and windows for draughts to ensure you are not loosing any additional heat.
3.Turn off your appliances rather than leaving them on standby, they can be still using upto 85% energy.
4. Try and only put on full loads of your washing machine, tumble drier and dishwasher.
5. Boil a kettle with only as much water as you need.
6. Use LED lighting in your home and save up to 80% of your current energy consumption on lighting.
7. Cover pots and pans when cooking - they will boil much faster.
8. Don't leave laptops and mobile phones on charge for longer than necassary.
9. One 1/3 of the cost of heating your home is lost through the walls, insulating your cavity walls can save up to £100 a year.
10. Turn off lights when you are not in the room.

The Exled view of lighting and area is more than just providing a functional installation.
There are many factors for consideration when choosing lighting. Apart from the practicality of providing the required light levels and within a budget, lighting should be stimulating. Lighting can be used to excite a plethora of emotions and feelings. It can be used to define areas of work and play. It can be a powerful tool, welcoming in a reception area and intimidating in the board room.
With this in mind Exled takes a more consultative approach to many of its projects. A Project Manager will be assigned to evaluate and assess how LED lighting can be used to benefit your organisation.
If required they will arrange to meet with the relevant team to develop ideas into a design brief. As a result of this dialogue Exled has often developed luminaries to meet a specific requirement.
All of our project proposals are backed up by a straight forward and detailed installation instructions and a comprehensive warranty. A Technical Manager is on hand to answer any on site questions during the installation phase.
